UK Plans to Increase Immigration Fees in 2025

The UK Government has proposed significant changes to immigration fees for skilled workers applying through the Skilled Worker route starting in 2025. These changes include a notable increase in the cost of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), doubling from £239 to £525. Employers in the UK hiring foreign professionals will need to account for these increased costs when sponsoring skilled workers.

Additionally, the cost of applying for UK citizenship is likely to rise, although specific details are yet to be confirmed. The proposals are pending Parliamentary approval, and the implementation date will be announced soon.

Reason for the Fee Hike

The fee increase is designed to generate an additional £269 million in revenue. This funding aims to alleviate the financial burden on taxpayers and ensure the smooth operation of the UK's immigration system.

Under the proposed changes, employers will bear the increased CoS costs, which cannot be passed on to foreign nationals. This policy could require sponsors to reassess their immigration budgets for hiring skilled workers from abroad.
