65,000 Additional H-2B Visas Announced for FY 2025: Opportunities for Workers and Employers.

 


The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Labor (DOL) have announced the release of 64,716 additional H-2B visas for fiscal year 2025. This decision aims to address labor shortages across critical industries like tourism, housekeeping, landscaping, construction, amusement, and seafood processing.

The H-2B program is essential for American businesses struggling to meet temporary labor demands. These supplemental visas, the maximum allowed by Congress, are divided as follows:

  • 20,000 visas are designated for workers from countries like Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, and Honduras.

  • 44,716 visas are for returning H-2B workers employed in the past three fiscal years, split between the year’s first and second halves.

Annually, 66,000 H-2B visas are typically available. With the cap for the first half of FY 2025 already reached, these additional visas offer much-needed support for businesses relying on seasonal or peak labor.

Since 2017, DHS and DOL have collaborated to allocate extra H-2B visas (except for FY 2020 due to COVID-19). This year’s move reflects bipartisan support to ensure businesses can thrive despite workforce challenges.
